Frequency Asked Questions

How is the system installed?
An appropriately qualified electrician (your site electrician or a mandated electrician) installs and configures the system, assisted by a technician with Wattseeker training.

This operation can take less than half a day if the site is not very complex.

This is how it goes:

  • Software set up
  • Electrical lock-out
  • Electricity switched off (for just a few minutes)
  • Sensors installed
  • Configuration checked
  • End of lock-out, commissioning

How many appliances can be recognised per reading point?
A Lynx data logger can manage up to 128 sensors. Each sensor can identify several appliances.

How are the appliances recognised?
Each appliance has an electrical signature that our engineers recognise thanks to our patented algorithms.

How do I access the data?
The data is provided in the form of files and reports. It can also be accessed via a web interface.

How does this system differ from a traditional sub-meter system?
A sub-meter system provides information on a limited number of indissociable appliances. Adding a further appliance means creating a whole new set-up, which is always intrusive and costly. The Lynx solution, however, can identify the new appliance by its signature on the network (picked up by our algorithms). The LYNX system already in place suffices. There’s no further investment.

What’s the point of identifying individual appliances?
Isolating appliances makes it possible to analyse consumption precisely. We can then deepen the analysis to identify appliance malfunctions and recommend predictive maintenance.

How precise are the readings?
Our reading module is precise to within +/-2%.

What does NIALM/NILM stand for?
NIALM stands for “Non-Intrusive Appliance Load Monitoring”.

How can Qualisteo claim up to 40% savings?
The site manager has an “Energy Map” for the site that clearly identifies any challenges. The site manager can thus implement actions that have an immediate effect on consumption.

Several recognised organisations have announced that being aware of their detailed consumption has generated energy savings of up to 40%:

– ADEME (Agence De l’Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l’Energie).

– ECI (Environmental Change Institute) at Oxford University.

How can a return on investment be reaped in under 2 years?
After implementing QUALISTEO, our clients generally note immediate energy savings of 15%, with a return on investment in less than 2 years.

QUALISTEO reveals things that the client can do immediately and without any investment (with the benefits generally covering the cost of our services in less than 2 years).

Furthermore, the forthcoming increase in the price of electricity of over 30% in the coming 3 years (cf. CRE forecasts) will only make it even more worthwhile!

What are the easiest things to do to save energy?
Sadly, there is no standard answer to this question. Each site is different. Hence the value of drawing up a precise Energy Map, in order to identify useful actions.

QUALISTEO has developed mapping tools: breaking down consumption per usage, per zone, per appliance, monotonic load curves, breaking down peaks, analysing cycles, chronograms, balancing phases, etc…

The Energy Map reveals which major pieces of equipment are problematic. And that’s the beauty of our solution: it informs the client of the best actions for immediate savings!
